PhD position (Junior Scientist) - THz Communication and Sensing Research (f/m/d)

Your future responsibilities
You will be working in a team of international colleagues at the forefront of next generation wireless communication research. The PhD topic focuses on developing and investigating joint communication and sensing tasks in suitable THz frequency beyond current communication standards. 

You will engage in the following tasks: 
  • Design and implementation of a transportable THz setup using photomixing synthesis.  
  • Perform communication link characterization and THz spectroscopic measurements.
  • Engage with colleagues to develop and explore THz application ideas.
  • Inspire and supervise master students.
  • Write scientific publication in high-impact journals and participate at conferences.
As a PhD student you will become member of the SAL Doctoral College (SAL-DC), which actively fosters networking, discussion and exchange of ideas and collaboration among the students and supervisors with a diverse interdisciplinary background. The SAL-DC host dedicated events and platforms such as its annual summit, the scientific forum, summer schools, social activity day, etc.
Your profile
  • M.Sc. (or higher) in communication engineering, physics, electronics engineering, signal processing, 
  • Previous experience with practical implementation of communication or optical measurement setups  (e.g. physical layer RF / fiber optical communication, laser spectroscopy, etc.)        
  • Experience in one or more of the following fields is a plus:
    • Terahertz Sensing 
    • Machine Learning 
    • Communication Theory 
  • Hands-on, scientifically curious, communicative and well-organized. 
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in English.

This position is subject to the Collective Agreement for employees in non-university research (Research CA) in occupational group E1. For this position, your monthly salary will be EUR 3.520, paid 14 times a year.
