Intern / Student, Full-time · VILLACH

Your future responsibilities
We are seeking a motivated student to join a cutting-edge research project. This exciting opportunity focuses on the design and optimization of nonlinear meta-optical components using inverse photonics design approaches.
As an intern, you will engage in a range of activities, including numerical simulations, design of meta-optical structures, and theoretical analysis of nonlinear optical phenomena. You will work closely with experienced researchers and have the opportunity to contribute to innovative solutions with potential industry applications.
If you are eager to gain hands-on experience in modern nonlinear meta-optics and computational photonics, we encourage you to apply!

Your Tasks Will Include:
  • Development of advanced meta-optical components and circuits:
    • Conducting literature reviews to identify state-of-the-art techniques.
    • Developing design concepts for nonlinear metasurfaces.
    • Utilizing dedicated photonics and multi-physics simulation tools (e.g., Ansys LumericalComsol, Matlab, Python).
    • Implementing inverse design algorithms for meta-optical structures.
    • Analyzing and optimizing nonlinear optical responses.
  • Summarizing and presenting research results in internal reports and discussions.
  • (If applicable) Assisting in experimental validation and fabrication-related tasks.
Your profile
  • Advanced Bachelor's or Master's student in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Photonics, or a related field, with strong academic performance.

About us

Silicon Austria Labs (SAL) is a top research center for Electronics and Software Based Systems (ESBS). At three locations (Graz, Villach, Linz), SAL is conducting research along the entire ESBS value chain in the areas of sensor systems, power electronics, intelligent wireless systems, microsystems and embedded systems to develop future-oriented solutions for industrial production, health, energy, mobility, safety and more. SAL brings together key players from industry, science and research and thus valuable expertise and know-how and conducts cooperative, application-oriented research along the value chain. Cooperative projects are co-financed by SAL and enable a fast and unbureaucratic project start. SAL is thus shaping the high-tech location Austria and Europe and developing the future

Innovation is our top priority and so are our employees. We are a family-friendly company and support the compatibility of work and family as much as possible. That is why we have been awarded the Work and Family Certificate until 2026. But we are constantly working on new measures to offer our employees an environment where they feel good, healthy and motivated.
