Scientist - Integrated Photonics Design (f/m/d)

Your future responsibilities
  • Design and development of photonic integrated circuit for datacom and sensing application.
  • Lead or support the design of active components with the introduction of advanced thin film materials on standard photonic platforms e.g. high speed modulators, laser diodes, photodetectors.
  • Design and optimize passive photonic components for multiple photonic platforms e.g. Si, SiN, LiN.
  • Collaborate with process engineers to develop photonic devices fabrication processes in an R&D clean room facility.
  • Lead or contribute to develop internal testing facilities and data analysis to evaluate the performance of integrated photonic devices.
  • Collaborate with all other functional teams and research units in the organization to implement co-designed and co-optimized photonic systems.
  • Scientific report, documentation, generating new intellectual property including patent applications, writing of proposals.
  • Lead project in collaboration with industry or academia.
Your profile
  • PhD degree in electrical/telecommunication engineering, applied physics or related fields; preferably with a focus on high-speed integrated photonic components.
  • Experience in design of related silicon photonic devices in an industrial or academical environment.
  • Strong experience using multi-physics simulation software e.g. Ansys Lumerical, Comsol.
  • Strong programming ability with Python, Matlab, or similar language.
  • Hands-on experience with photonic component development and photonic integrated circuit design, layout and characterization.
  • Good knowledge of the semiconductor technologies with practical experience in cleanroom microfabrication processes.
  • Good knowledge of the photonic market, trends and promising technologies.
  • Autonomous, passionate, well organized, enjoy working in a dynamic and multicultural team. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

This position is subject to the Collective Agreement for employees in non-university research (Research CA) starting in occupational group E (E1 salary = EUR 3.827, paid 14 times a year) based on 38,5 hours per week). For this position we offer competitive salaries and additional benefits based on your experience and qualifications, starting with a minimum gross salary of EUR 61.000 (annual, based on an All-in contract).
