Master Thesis - Vector magnetometry using diamond-based quantum sensing (all genders)

Your future responsibilities
Bringing together applied science and industry, SAL offers research in the areas of Sensor Systems, Intelligent Wireless Systems, Power Electronics and Embedded Systems. The position will be located within the Sensor Systems Photonics group to support the automation and control of photonic systems by developing software for data acquisition, user interfaces and embedded hardware control.  SAL – a great place to research. 

Your tasks include:

  • Development of novel magnetic resonance imaging setup for quantum vector magnetometry using nitrogen vacancy defects in diamond  
  • Laser tweezing, micro- and nanoparticle manipulation 
  • Applied optics design and experiments, optical engineering 
  • Experimental work, proof of principle experiments, feasibility studies 
  • Data processing, programming and automation of lab setups
  • Scientific dissemination 
Your profile
  • Enrolled master student (university in EU) in physics with focus on optics, spectroscopy, semiconductors or atomic physics and related area of expertise.
  • Interest in quantum sensing and optical metrology.  
  • Broad scientific interest, covering both fundamental and practical scientific aspects.  
  • Good programming knowledge in Python is a plus.
  • Curious, proactive, can-do attitude, fast and effective.  
  • Open to work both in team and independently. 
  • Excellent English communication skills (German is a plus).

This position is subject to the Collective Agreement for employees in non-university research (Research CA).  For this position, we offer a monthly gross salary of EUR 1.863, paid 14 times a year.
