Your future responsibilities

The team for Magnetic Microsystems and Technologies (MMT) at Silicon Austria Labs is looking for a motivated Senior Research Engineer to take on challenging and responsible tasks in the field of cleanroom microfabrication. In this role, you will contribute your expertise and independent working style to advance the FAMES pilot line project, focused on developing self-biased circulators based on ferrite materials. 

Senior Research Engineers at SAL take ownership of complex technical work, contribute to project planning and execution, and play an active role in both internal and external collaborations.

Your initial research will center on developing dielectric and magnetic layers for circulators using additive manufacturing techniques, followed by characterization and microfabrication processes such as lithography, etching, sputtering, and evaporation.

Your future tasks include:
  • Deposition and characterization of dielectric and magnetic materials
  • Optimization of fabrication processes
  • Execution of material (SEM, AFM, XRD), electrical, RF, and magnetic (VSM, FMR) characterizations
  • Analysis and evaluation of experimental data
  • Documentation of findings and preparation of technical reports
  • Timely contribution to project deliverables and milestones
  • Contribution to project management and acquisition of funding for scientific research
  • Proactivity in identifying scientifically interesting results
  • Contribution to scientific publications and participation to scientific dissemination in general
Your profile
  • PhD (or MSc with equivalent relevant work experience) in a related field, focusing on microfabrication and magnetism
  • Experience in cleanroom microfabrication, magnetism, and/or nanoparticles
  • Experience contributing to (clean room related) projects with a mindset to deliver milestones and results
  • Evidence of cleanroom work, such as scientific publications or a PhD thesis
  • Knowledge of RF characterization techniques and  experience with thin film growth processes is a plus
  • Familiarity with software tools such as Ansys, Comsol, CST, RF simulations, or Python prefered
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; German is a plus
  • Willingness to relocate to Villach, Austria

This position is subject to the Collective Agreement for employees in non-university research (Research CA) starting in occupational group E (E1 salary = EUR 3.963, paid 14 times a year) based on 38,5 hours per week. For this position we offer competitive salaries and additional benefits based on your experience and qualifications, starting with a minimum gross salary of EUR 61.000 (annual, based on an All-in contract).
