VILLACH
Full-time
Intern / Student

Your future responsibilities

Bringing together applied science and industry, Silicon Austria Labs (SAL) conducts cutting-edge research in Sensor Systems, Microsystems, Intelligent Wireless Systems, Power Electronics, and Embedded Systems. As part of our Magnetic Microsystem Technologies (MMT) research unit, we are looking for a motivated Master’s student for an exciting Master Thesis focusing on the simulation of non-conventional Hall effect devices.

Your Scientific responsibilities

  • Study improvement strategies and limitations of different Hall effect devices
  • Investigate the impact of material parameters, geometries, and temperature conditions, including materials such as bulk GaN, 2D electron gas in AlGaN/GaN heterostructures, graphene, and InSb
  • Conduct device modelling using the Finite Element Method and numerical simulation of analytical expressions, with a strong preference for COMSOL and Python
  • Design devices based on defined performance indicators, such as maximum output voltage, sensitivity within a given field range, and linearity range
  • Perform literature research on Hall effect devices, implement existing equations in simulation environments, and further refine and extend these models
  • Investigate correlations between Hall effect devices and Extraordinary Magnetoresistance devices
  • Support experimental measurements in our Magnetics Laboratory and adapt measurement setups to meet specific testing requirements
  • Collaborate with project partners across Europe and actively contribute to the EU-funded project NOVETROL
  • Prepare progress reports and support the development of scientific outputs (e.g. conference abstracts, journal articles)

Your profile

  • Enrolled master student (university in EU) in a related technical field
  • Background in physics, mathematics, simulations, magnetics, materials or engineering
  • Ideally first experience with finite elements or finite difference methods
  • Knowledge in electrical measurements, data analysis and Python
  • Familiarity with working on analytical expressions
  • Interest in learning about magnetism, magnetic devices
  • Ability to work independently AND in a team
  • Excellent English communication skills
